Crime is down 20% in the first quarter of 2024 (January – March) in Arlington, Lakeland, and unincorporated Shelby County. These crimes include homicide, aggravated assault, aggravated burglary, motor vehicle thefts, robberies, and thefts from motor vehicles. Sheriff Floyd Bonner, Jr. attributes this crime decrease to the hard work and dedication of the men and women in law enforcement, especially uniformed patrol, fugitive, and detective divisions. Sheriff Bonner also wants to thank our active and vigilant citizens who “see something and say something,” and report to the Sheriff’s Office any suspicious activity occurring in the community.

PATROL SUPPORT SERVICES DEPUTY OF THE QUARTER The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Support Services, which includes Traffic, DUI, Motors, Schools, and K-9 units, recognizes a deputy with “Deputy of the Quarter” honors. This quarter’s recipient, Deputy Princeton Aldridge, 28, has served in the Sheriff’s Office since 2016. He currently works as a School Resource Officer at Bolton High School and is commended for his excellent work performance. Assistant Chief Derek Mills, Chief Inspector Mark Kellerhall, Captain Lawrence Smith, Lieutenant Peter Myles, Lieutenant Kenny Roberson, Sergeant Jasen Maclin, Sergeant Michelle Garrison, and Sergeant Raoul Gonzalez presented a plaque and citation on July 16 at the SCSO substation honoring Deputy Aldridge as the Deputy of the Quarter. Deputy Aldridge has gone above and beyond to assist various investigative bureaus with major cases in and around Shelby County. When $95,000 worth of building supplies were stolen off the school campus where Deputy Aldridge is assigned, he immediately provided snapshots from surveillance footage to detectives, which was pivotal in investigators arresting the suspect and recovering the stolen property a short time later. He has assisted GIB investigators with identifying auto burglary suspects, gang unit detectives with information regarding a shooting investigation in Memphis, and Clarksville, TN detectives needing help in identifying a suspect in a homicide case. Detectives recognized what a wealth of knowledge Deputy Aldridge can be, and have continued to reach out to him on a regular basis to gather intelligence on various investigations. Deputy Aldridge has taken on tasks and work events when his supervisors needed volunteers. He has even stepped up in the middle of the night for call outs or has volunteered to be called first, if needed. His ability to build relationships and gain the trust of students, parents/families, staff members, and administrators, is remarkable, and he has demonstrated his character and love for his job.
